Don began a duel career in 1968 with the Franklin Life Insurance Company in Wheaton, Illinois while he continued his full time career in education as a teacher-coach and later as an administrator.  As a dual career associate (T.A.P.), Trainee Associate Program, Don qualified for the Company’s Diplomat and Key Clubs.  He also received Mid-America Regional honors.  In 1983, he was named the “Part Time Associate of the Year” and in both 1984 and 1985, Don was named “TAPer of the Year”.

In 1987, Don retired from education and pursued a full-time career with the Franklin Companies.  At the end of 1992 he was earning a six-figure income and was named “Salesman of the Year” in the Mid-America Region.  Don received national recognition in 1993 by ranking sixty-one in the Company for net paid premium and qualified for one of Franklin’s most prestigious sales achievements, a “Centurion” in 1992 and 1993.

Also in 1992, Don was looking for a new challenge, building an agency.  He and his three TAPer associates generated $136,000 net premium, earning Don the title, “Silver Manager of the Year” in the Region.  The agency began to grow and by 1996 the D.L. Cunningham Agency produced over $200,000 N.P. premium with two full-time and three part time associates.

Don moved from St. Charles, Illinois, where his agency was located, to establish an agency in Florida.  He became affiliated with Doug Brainard & Associates, Inc. in 1998.  The Franklin Companies have now merged into the AIG American General Group.  This is where Don plans to spend his semi-retirement years helping people with their financial needs.
